Just a year and a half since Homestead Green was released to the market, the first family has moved in. Not surprisingly, Peter & Bronwen Miller and their baby son were absolutely delighted with their brand new home. Peter and Bronwen had looked at a number of land estates but selected Homestead Green as the blocks provided more land for an affordable price. "The location of our land provides a beautiful rural setting combined with all the benefits of being still close to the Dubbo CBD and Orana Mall," Peter commented. "It is just so quiet and peaceful creating a fantastic and happy lifestyle for our family".

As his wife Bronwen agreed. "We looked at much larger acreages, even at much smaller blocks, but we knew that the only subdivision with one acre blocks was Homestead Green. It provides us with enough space for our family but feel it would also be easy to manage and we would not be on top of our neighbours".

"We love it here – it is so quiet and peaceful, and it is great value for money compared with other areas," Bronwen went on to add.

Their beautiful home was constructed by Scott MacLeod from Cloud Nine Building. Peter is an Engineer with Barnson, and together with the help of Scott MacLeod, they found the building process very simple and the land very easy to build on. "We knew it was a good area to build in and on. The surrounding trees were well established. In addition, the trees and gardens in preceding sections of land around the estate were flourishing and the soil test backed that up," said Peter.

Michael Carolan, director of Raine & Horne Dubbo, is also very happy for the family. "The Millers are the first family to move into Homestead Green with other homes nearing completion as well. We have had a fantastic sales response.

"Nearly 50% of the land has been sold in only a short period of time. The success is undoubtedly due to the fact Homestead Green is the only one acre land left in Dubbo," he said. "With buyers needing just a little more space at an affordable price than a standard block, this will ensure that Homestead Green will continue to flourish until sold out.”

Around 1000 trees have already been planted at Homestead Green and they are responding well to the rich soils.

A further 2000 trees are due to be planted this spring, making a total of over 3000 trees distributed around the 41 blocks of Homestead Green. That's around 70 trees per one acre block of land, which will result in a lush rural ambience.

To complement this rural setting, a solid timber post and rail fence has been constructed, reminiscent of a traditional country estate. Which means residents of Homestead Green can enjoy the best of both worlds; all the benefits of living near the city with a semi-rural lifestyle.

The word from a leading local horticulturalist who has bought a block at Homestead Green has given the soil quality the thumbs up. She says that the soils are very fertile and ideally suited to growing many varieties of plants, shrubs and trees. This is good news for keen gardeners and also for those interested in creative landscaping.

Social researchers have documented the emerging trend for families to escape the city in search of a more relaxed, stress-free quality of life.

Universities have studied this trend and identified a group they call ‘downshifters' – people who are fed up with big cities and the traffic jams, crime, pollution and high cost of living. So they're moving to places that are more friendly, easier to live in and places where they can buy a larger home and enjoy an easier lifestyle with less stress. As a result, many are heading inland, and Homestead Green offers the perfect location.

In addition, the prospect of buying an acre of land in capital cities is a dream reserved only for the ultra wealthy. Yet at Homestead Green, ordinary working families can enjoy just that, with all the benefits of city living close by.

Just minutes away along Wheelers Lane is Orana Mall, with over 50 stores including major supermarkets, variety stores, fashion boutiques and newsagents. They say it has ‘Everything you need' and they're right. In addition, the restaurants of the Dubbo CBD are also close by, along with schools, medical services, the Dubbo Base Hospital and Charles Sturt University .

Dubbo is also the hub of the Central West fruit bowl. Fine wines, olives, cheeses, fruit and vegetables are in abundance from nearby vineyards and market gardens. So as the tastes of average Australians have become more sophisticated, Dubbo's primary producers have risen to the challenge. Ready for a ‘tree change' ? Homestead Green has plenty of trees, and much more besides.
